For this tutorial you will need to have basic knowledge of Paint Shop Pro. (My illustrations and instructions are written using version 7, but you should be able to comprehend with any version).

SAVE YOUR WORK OFTEN!

Colors we will be using for this tutorial (but you may use any colors of your choice in place of these):

Open up a new transparent canvas. 100 X 100. Paint brush setting at size 1. Below is an outline of the Doodle Elf Body Base. Please right click and save to your computer. Open in Animation Shop. Click Edit, then click Copy. Open your PSP. Click Edit and then click paste.....as New Layer.

Fill:
It's not necessary to fill in his hair as we will be adding a hat to his head and none of it will be showing.
Body- Activate Magic wand Image. Click inside the body of the elf. Flood fill Image with Lt. peach color (#F8D6BD). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 1
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 10
Shadow color - Dk peach (#E5AD94)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Head- Activate Magic wand . Click inside the head of the elf. Flood fill with Lt. peach color (#F7D6BD). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 1
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 5
Shadow color - Dk peach (#E7AD94)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. DO NOT DESELECT!!!!

Open a new Raster Layer and name it blush. With your blush color (#FF8080), pixel in his blush on his cheeks. See placement illustration below:

Click on Effects, Blur, Gaussian blur with a Radius of 1.00 Deselect. Merge. Merge Visible.

Shoe, showing to your left (Bottom area)- Activate Magic wand . Click inside the shoe showing to your left. Flood fill with Lt. Green (#00C000). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical -1
Horizontal -1
Opacity 100%
Blur 5
Shadow color - Dk Green (#004000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Shoe, showing to your right (Bottom area)- Activate Magic wand . Click inside the shoe showing to your right. Flood fill with Lt. Green (#00C000). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical -1
Horizontal 1
Opacity 100%
Blur 5
Shadow color - Dk Green (#004000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Tops of both shoes- Activate Magic wand . While pressing down on your Shift key, click inside the top areas of BOTH shoes. Flood fill with Lt. Green (#00C000). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 2.5
Shadow color - Dk Green (#004000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Open a New Raster Layer and name it Suit


Elf Suit Outline/Color Placement:

Fill:

Main part of suit- Activate Magic wand . Click inside suit. Flood fill with Lt. Green color (#00C000). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 10
Shadow color - Dk Green (#004000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Cuffs (Both)- Activate Magic wand . While pressing down on your Shift key, click inside each cuff. Flood fill with a very Lt. Green color (#82FF81). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 2.5
Shadow color - Green (#01C000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Open a New Raster Layer and name it Hat
Hat Outline:

Fill:

Hat - Activate Magic wand . Click inside hat. Flood fill with Lt. Green color (#00C000). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical -1
Horizontal -1
Opacity 100%
Blur 7.5
Shadow color - Very Dk Green (#004000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Ball - Activate Magic wand . Click inside ball. Flood fill with Lt. Red color (#FF4040). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 2.5
Shadow color - Dk Green (#004000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect. You may add a small white dot to the upper left side of the ball for highlight if you choose.

Now, with your mover tool, line up all your layers so the suit and hat is where they should be on the body base. Merge. Merge Visible.




To save your graphic with a transparent background, click Edit, then click on Copy. Open up your Animation Shop. Click Edit, then click on Paste....as a new animation. Save as a gif from there and you're finished!
