For this tutorial you will need to have basic knowledge of Paint Shop Pro. (My illustrations and instructions are written using version 7, but you should be able to comprehend with any version).
SAVE YOUR WORK OFTEN!
Colors we will be using for this tutorial (but you may use any colors of your choice in place of these):
Open up a new transparent canvas. 100 X 100. Paint brush setting at size 1.
**Note: All Shadow colors will be the same colors used for the outlines.
Reindeer Outline:
Fill:
Body- Activate Magic wand

. Click inside Reindeer. Flood fill

with Lt. Beige/Brown color (#C2A587). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:
Vertical -1
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 10
Shadow color - Brown (#7F5E3D)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. DO NOT DESELECT!!!
Add New Raster Layer. Name it Inside Ear.
With your Lt. Pink color (#FFC0BE), pixel inside of ear. See illustration:
Click Effects, Blur, Gaussian Blur with a Radius of .75 DO NOT DESELECT!!!
Add New Raster Layer. Name it Tail Highlights.
With your White color (#FFFFFF), pixel just inside of outline edge of tail. See illustration:
Click Effects, Blur, Gaussian Blur with a Radius of .75 NOW you can Deselect. Merge. Merge Visible.
Antlers- Activate Magic wand

. While pressing down on your Shift key, click inside Reindeer Antlers, getting all the areas of the antlers:
Flood fill

with White color (#FFFFFF). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:
Vertical -1
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 2.5
Shadow color - Beige (#CAC085)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.
Hooves- Activate Magic wand

. While pressing down on your Shift key, click inside each of the Reindeer hooves. Flood fill

with Dk Gray color (#808080). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:
Vertical 1
Horizontal 1
Opacity 100%
Blur 3.8
Shadow color - Black (#000000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.
Nose- Activate Magic wand

. Click inside Reindeer Nose. Flood fill

with Lt. Red color (#FE4040). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:
Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 2.5
Shadow color - Red (#C00000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect. Add white pixel to nose for highlight. See illustration:
****Note: For a regular Reindeer, the nose outline color would be Black, the fill would be a Dk. Gray (#808080). Cutout settings would be the same as above, but the Shadow color would be Black.****
You are now finished with your Rudi Reindeer!
However, if you wish to add a Harness to him, Add New Raster Layer and Name it Harness. Follow the illustration below for placement and pixel count:
The Green color is #004101 and the Gold color is #C0BF03.
Harness- Activate Magic wand . While pressing down on your Shift key, click inside each of the areas of the harness. Flood fill with Lt. Green color (#01C000). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:
Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 3.8
Shadow color - Green (#004101)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect. Merge. Merge Visible.
To save your graphic(s) with a transparent background, click Edit, then click on Copy. Open up your Animation Shop. Click Edit, then click on Paste....as a new animation. Save as a gif from there and you're finished!
