Holiday Ornament Image

For this tutorial you will need to have basic knowledge of Paint Shop Pro. (My illustrations and instructions are written using version 7, but you should be able to comprehend with any version).

SAVE YOUR WORK OFTEN!

Note: Magic Wand settings will ALWAYS be set at Tolerance and Feather 0 and the Cutout Fill interior box UNCHECKED.

Part 1: Ball

Open up a new transparent canvas 200 X 200 pixels
Activate paintbrush with these settings:

Outline Color: #C00000
Follow the illustration below for pixeling the outline of the ball.

Activate Magic wand (Tolerance and feather set at 0), click on transparent area inside of ball. Flood fill with color #FF4040.

Click Selections, then float

Go to Effects, 3D Effects, Cut out using these settings:
Vertical 0, Horizontal 0, Opacity 100, Blur 5o, Shadow color: #C00000.

Deselect and Save.
Click on "Layers". Add new Raster layer.
Set your brush to size 7
Change your color pallette to white (#FFFFFF)
Draw a white arc similar to illustration below:

Click on Effects, Blur, Gaussian blur, Radius 5.00
Click on Layers, Merge, Merge visible and Save.
Click on Layers and add a New Raster Layer.
Keep your brush size at 7 and your color at white.
Draw another white arc opposite of the first. (See example below):

Click on Effects, Blur, Gaussian blur, Radius 10.00
Click on Layers, Merge, Merge visible and Save.

Part 2: Ornament Top and Holly

Ornament Top:

Click on Layer, New Raster layer. Name this layer 'Ornament top'

Click on Layer again, then click on "View" and then click on "Current Only"

Below is illustration of the ornament top. Colors are as follows:

Ring,2,7 and 12 : Color #E1E27E
1 and 9 : Color #A2A335
3,5,8,10 and 13 : Color #C5C64C
4 : Color #848519
6 and 11 : Color #FFFFFF

Click on Layers, View, View all and then align your ornament top on top of your ball. Should look like this:

Click on Layers, Merge, Merge visible. Click on Layers, Properties, and rename the merged layer 'Ornament'

Save.

Holly:

Click on Layer, New Raster layer. Name this layer 'Holly'

Click on Layer again, then click on "View" and then click on "Current Only"

Below is illustration of the holly.

Outline leaf color: #004000,
Fill color: #008000

Activate Magic wand. While pressing down on shift key, click inside each leaf. Flood fill with #008000.

Click on 'Selections' then 'Float'.

Click on 'Effects', '3D Effects', 'Cutout',

Vertical 0, Horizontal 0, Opacity 100, Blur 10, Fill Interior box UNCHECKED and Shadow color #004000.

Deselect and Save.

Holly Berries:

Click on Layer, New Raster layer. Name this layer 'Berries'Click on Layer again, then click on "View" and then click on "Current Only"

Berries Outline Color: #C00000
Fill Color: #FF4040

Below is illustration of the berries:

Activate Magic wand. While pressing down on shift key, click inside each berry. Flood fill with #FF4040.

Click on 'Selections' then 'Float'.

Click on 'Effects', '3D Effects', 'Cutout',Vertical 0, Horizontal 0, Opacity 100, Blur 3, Fill Interior box UNCHECKED and Shadow color #C00000.

Deselect and Save.

Unhide your holly leaves. With your mover tool, move the berries to the middle area of the holly leaves.

With your ornament ball still hidden and only your holly leaves and your holly berries showing, click on Layers, Merge, Merge Visible.

Rename Merged layer as "Holly".

Unhide your Ornament ball layer. With your Holly layer active, click on your mover tool and move your Holly whereever you want it on your Ornament ball!

Then click on layers, Merge, Merge visible.

Save and you're all set to use Ornament ball!

You may create all different colored balls, put bows on them, or pictures in the middle of the ball...whatever suits your fancy!
