For this tutorial you will need to have basic knowledge of Paint Shop Pro. (My illustrations and instructions are written using version 7, but you should be able to comprehend with any version).

SAVE YOUR WORK OFTEN!

****VERY IMPORTANT****
In this tutorial, you will need to Merge, Merge Visible a couple of times. It is very important that you hide any layers you do NOT wish to merge together by clicking on the little eye glasses next to those layer(s). Once you've merged the layers you wish, you can then unhide the layer(s) not included in the merged layers.
Colors we will be using for this tutorial (but you may use any colors of your choice in place of these):

Open up a new transparent canvas. 100 X 100. Paint brush setting at size 1. Below is an outline of the Doodle Mrs. Claus Body Base. Please right click and save to your computer. Open in Animation Shop. Click Edit, then click Copy. Open your PSP. Click Edit and then click paste.....as New Layer.

Fill:
***It is not necessary to fill in the hair as we will be having a Santa hat covering it.***

Body- Activate Magic wand . Click inside the body of Santa Claus. Flood fill with Lt. peach color (#F8D6BD). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:
Vertical 1
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 10
Shadow color - Dk peach (#E5AD94)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Head- Activate Magic wand . Click inside the head of Santa Claus. Flood fill with Lt. peach color (#F7D6BD). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 1
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 5
Shadow color - Dk peach (#E7AD94)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. DO NOT DESELECT!!!!

Open a new Raster Layer and name it blush. With your blush color (#FF8080), pixel in his blush on his cheeks. See placement illustration below:

Click on Effects, Blur, Gaussian blur with a Radius of .75 Deselect. Merge. Merge Visible.

Open a New Raster Layer and Name it Suit.

Suit Outline:

Fill:

Jacket, showing to your left - Activate Magic wand . Click inside left side of jacket. Flood fill with Lt. Red (#FF4040). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 1
Horizontal -1
Opacity 100%
Blur 10
Shadow color - Dk Red (#800000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Jacket, showing to your right - Activate Magic wand . Click inside right side of jacket. Flood fill with Lt. Red (#FF4040). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 1
Horizontal 1
Opacity 100%
Blur 10
Shadow color - Dk Red (#800000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Pant leg, showing to your left - Activate Magic wand . Click inside left side of pant leg. Flood fill with Lt. Red (#FF4040). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 1
Horizontal -1
Opacity 100%
Blur 7.5
Shadow color - Dk Red (#800000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Pant leg, showing to your right - Activate Magic wand . Click inside right side of pant leg. Flood fill with Lt. Red (#FF4040). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 1
Horizontal 1
Opacity 100%
Blur 7.5
Shadow color - Dk Red (#800000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Furry Trim - Activate Magic wand . While pressing down your Shift Key, click inside each area of furry trim (on sleeves and pant legs). Flood fill with White(#FFFFFF). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 2.5
Shadow color - Beige (#CFBD9F)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Gloves -Activate Magic wand . While pressing down your Shift Key, click inside each area of the gloves. Flood fill with Black (#000000). There are no cutouts for the gloves.

Open a New Raster Layer and Name it Beard.

Beard Outline:

Fill:

Mustache -Activate Magic wand . While pressing down your Shift Key, click inside each area of the mustache. Don't miss any areas:

Flood fill with Gray/White (#F5F5F5). There are no cutouts for the Mustache.

Both sides of beard - Activate Magic wand . While pressing down your Shift Key, click inside both areas of the top part of the beard. Flood fill with White(#FFFFFF). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 2.5
Shadow color - Lt. Gray (#C0C0C0)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect. It should looks like this:

Bottom of Beard - Activate Magic wand . Click inside bottom part of beard. Flood fill with White (#FFFFFF). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 1
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 5
Shadow color - Lt. Gray (#C0C0C0)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. DO NOT DESELECT!!

Open a new Raster layer and name it beard contours. Using the illustration below, pixel in the contours of the beard with a Lt. Gray color (#C0C0C0).

Click on Effects, Blur, Gaussian blur with a Radius of .75 Deselect. At this point, you will need to hide his suit and body base layers to where only the beard and the contour layers are showing. Merge. Merge Visible. Now you may unhide your other layers. While the Beard layer is still active, take your eraser brush and a size 1 setting a erase 1 little dot just under his mustache (for his mouth):

Open a New Raster Layer and Name it Hat.

Hat Outline:

Fill:

Hat - Activate Magic wand . While pressing down your Shift Key, click inside each area of Santas' Hat. (Don't forget that one little pixel on the left side!):

Flood fill with Lt. Red (#FF4040). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical -1
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 6.3
Shadow color - Dk Red (#800000)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Furry Hat Trim & Ball - Activate Magic wand . While pressing down your Shift Key, click inside furry trim & ball on hat. Flood fill with White(#FFFFFF). Click Selections, then click Float. Click Effects, 3D Effects, Cut Outs using these settings:

Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 100%
Blur 2.5
Shadow color - Beige (#CFBD9F)
Fill Interior with color box UNCHECKED. Deselect.

Open a New Raster Layer and Name it Belt.

Belt (Fill in as shown...there are no cutouts):

Now, with your mover tool, line up all your layers so the body base, suit, hat, belt and beard are where they should be:

Merge. Merge Visible.




To save your graphic with a transparent background, click Edit, then click on Copy. Open up your Animation Shop. Click Edit, then click on Paste....as a new animation. Save as a gif from there and you're finished!
